Cadillac Was King

This is another in my posts celebrating the Thursday evening Hyde Park Lions Club Country Cruizin' nights held at Steve Plunkett's Fleetwood Farms. The events are free but those attending or showing cars are encouraged to give a donation to the Special Abilities Riding Institute in Arva. The institute offers horseback riding for children with disabilities.

Expect to see several hundred cars at each event, mostly beautiful Detroit iron, but there are always a few vintage English sports cars and other memorable vehicles to be seen. The historic Cadillac, above, is part of Steve Plunkett's private collection. Leaving the grounds Thursday night, I noticed this classic beauty sitting in front of Plunkett's newest building, which was constructed to house Plunkett's most interesting cars.

How Plunkett chooses which dozen or so cars to include in his top tier of classic Cadillacs is a question. If all this sounds interesting, for directions and more details, visit: http://www.countrycruizin.com.

Giving new meaning to Cruise In

The big pond on Steve Plunkett's Fleetwood Farms, on the far west end of London, had more than ducks floating in it this past Saturday. It was the 2009 edition of the Fleetwood Country Cruise In and Plunkett allowed the Amphicars to use his pond. They took to the water just like the ducks except the Amphicars carried passengers, attendees patient enough to queue up for a ride in the rare car/boat creation. It's been reported that more than 12,000 people, plus more than 3,000 classic cars, were at this year's event.

When GM Was the Leader

It's Thursday and this evening from 6 p.m. till dusk the Hyde Park Lions Club is hosting the second Country Cruizin' evening at Steve Plunkett's Fleetwood Farms. The nights are free, with optional donations going to the Special Abilities Riding Institute in Arva, which offers horseback riding to children with disabilities. Expect to see several hundred cars, mostly beautiful Detroit iron such as this heritage Cadillac, but there are always a few foreign cars, too. If all this sounds interesting, visit http://www.countrycruizin.com for directions and more details.

Still an "A" Roadster

Another classic gets some lovin' care at the first Country Cruizin' event of the year at Steve Plunkett's Fleetwood Farms west of London, Ont. The Hyde Park Lions Club is hosting the free events weekly on Thursday evenings through Sept. 24th. Donations are optional but greatly appreciated with the money raised going to the Special Abilities Riding Institute in Arva, which offers horseback riding to children with disabilities. Pictured is a Ford Model A roadster built in the late '20s in the Ford Motor Company of Canada plant in Walkerville, Ontario - now part of Windsor. As suggested in a previous post, for more details and complete directions please visit http://www.countrycruizin.com.
